Myōshin-ji is a temple complex in Kyoto, Japan, and serves as the head temple for a branch of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. The temple grounds were once a palace belonging to Emperor Hanazono, who donated it in 1342 to establish the temple. Many of the original buildings were destroyed in 1467 during the Ōnin War, but they were rebuilt over the next 150 years.
