Honen-in is a Jodo sect Buddhist temple in northeast Kyoto, near the Philosopher's Path. It began as a wooden hut for monk Honen and his followers in the late 12th century, becoming a temple in 1680 under monk Nincho. The temple's gardens feature contemporary artworks and its cemetery holds the graves of notable Japanese authors.
