Shimbaru-Nuyama Mounded Tomb Group 新原・奴山古墳群

The Shimbaru-Nuyama Mounded Tomb Group in Fukutsu City contains the tombs of the Munakata clan, a powerful ancient family. This clan was involved in international interactions and performed rituals on Okinoshima. The tombs were built on a plateau between the fifth and sixth centuries, overlooking a marine route to Okinoshima. There are 41 preserved tombs, including keyhole-shaped, round, and rectangular burial mounds.
