Tochoji Temple, an esoteric Buddhist temple, was founded by Kukai around 806. It houses the Fukuoka Daibutsu, a large wooden statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, and the Senju Kannon Bosatsu, a national important cultural property. The temple also holds the Setsubun Festival, a traditional event since the Muromachi period.
