Hakodate Port Festival (Wasshoi Hakodate) 函館港まつり

The Hakodate Port Festival is an annual summer event held from August 1st to 5th. It began in 1935 to help residents recover from the Great Hakodate Fire of 1934 and to mark the 77th anniversary of Hakodate Port's opening. The festival features a fireworks display, a parade with portable shrines and floats, and the traditional "Hakodate Port Dance" and "Ika Odori" (Squid Dance).
