Philosopher's Path

The Philosopher's Path is a two-kilometer stone path in Kyoto's Higashiyama district. It follows a canal lined with cherry trees, which bloom in early April. The path is named after Nishida Kitaro, a Japanese philosopher who meditated there.

  • The Lake Biwa Canal branch canalThe promenade runs alongside the branch canal from Kumano Nyakuoji Shrine to Ginkakuji Temple. It is named for Kitaro Nishida, a philosopher at Kyoto University, and his fellow philosophers.

Getting there — Kyoto City suggests walking the Philosopher's Path as a route between Keage Subway Station and Ginkaku-ji Temple.
