The Kyoto Imperial Palace was once the home of Japan's Imperial Family until 1868, when the capital moved to Tokyo. The current palace was rebuilt in 1855 after previous structures were destroyed by fire. It is located within the Kyoto Imperial Park, a large park in the city center.
