The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is a suspension bridge that connects Kobe on Honshu island and Iwaya, Awaji on Awaji Island. It was finished in 1998 and was the longest suspension bridge in the world at that time. The bridge was designed to withstand strong winds, earthquakes, and harsh sea currents.
